Oxygen vs. Ozone Therapy

Oxygen therapy and ozone therapy may seem like very similar treatments, but their difference lies in their benefits.

As you know, oxygen is a gas that we breathe in to power all of our bodily processes (think everything from energy production to digesting food). Our bodies rely on oxygen to produce adenosine triphosphate, or ATP (cellular energy).

Ozone, on the other hand, is a supercharged version of oxygen, containing an extra atom that gives it the ability to help your body eliminate viruses, fungus, harmful toxins, and free radicals.

At Iowa Wellness Center, we offer both oxygen and ozone therapy near Cedar Rapids to improve a myriad of conditions. To learn which treatment works best for you, keep reading.

Oxygen Therapy

We use oxygen therapy to improve and support the following:

  • Breathing
  • Energy
  • Wound healing
  • Cognitive function
  • Blood flow and nutrient delivery

Oxygen is administered through a nasal cannula or a face mask—whichever is more comfortable for you. Once inhaled, the oxygen saturates nearly all of your bodily tissues, especially your brain, kidney, and liver. You’ll notice improvements in breathing, energy, and your overall well-being as you continue your sessions.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy can improve the following:

  • Immune support
  • Inflammation
  • Disc herniation
  • Joint pain
  • Allergies
  • Chronic infections

For your ozone therapy treatment, you have 3 administration options:

  • Gas injection: small volumes of a gaseous mixture of oxygen and ozone.
  • Prolozone injection: we start by mixing methyl B12, pyridoxine (B6), and procaine to supplement the ozone gas.
  • PRP + ozone injection: PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, a concentrate made from your own blood that contains growth factors necessary for healing. We add PRP to your ozone injection to accelerate recovery and reduce pain.

Each administration option offers unique benefits to enhance your treatment.

Ozone Blood Therapy

Ozone blood therapy, also known as extracorporeal blood ozonation and oxygenation (EBOO), is another type of ozone therapy. This option is similar to dialysis because it involves drawing blood and cleaning it of harmful debris such as germs, heavy metals, and toxins.

Once the blood has been ozonated, we administer it back into your body through a different vein. We use this treatment for the following concerns:

After a series of 3 initial sessions, you’ll not only start to feel relief from your unique symptoms, but you’ll also experience more energy as well!
