At Iowa Wellness Center, we obtain PRP from safely donated blood. Once we have the donation in the office, we place the blood in a specialized collecting system. After it’s in the specialized collecting system, we place it in a centrifuge to get the PRP we use for treatment.

Learn More About PRP Injections
Plasma-rich plasma (PRP) injections work by collaborating with your body’s own recovery efforts. In doing so, they can help you heal from past injuries and chronic pain. In fact, PRP is a solution made almost entirely from the reparative properties within your body.
We use a small sample of donated blood and spin it into a centrifuge to create a potent solution of platelets, also known as PRP. These components are vital for your body’s recovery. When we inject them at the site of injuries in such a concentrated form, it can change the game in your healing process.
We often recommend PRP injections in North Liberty for pain and injuries because they focus so heavily on repairing your tissue. We target the cells from the inside out, giving PRP the opportunity to work through old, deep-rooted injuries and provide relief for pain that just won’t go away.
When we inject PRP into your scalp, it helps stimulate your hair follicles and increases the blood flow around them. Not only can this encourage new hair to grow, but it can even lengthen the growth phase of existing follicles. This means you can see less shedding along with thicker, fuller hair.
Typically, we recommend 1 to 3 treatments for the best results. The number of necessary sessions will depend on your treatment goals that you and your provider discussed in the initial consultation. We also suggest annual maintenance appointments to support results lasting as long as possible.
To prepare for your PRP treatment, we ask that you follow the following instructions:
- Please stop taking any blood-thinning medications if it’s safe for you to do so. We will give you detailed instructions about when to stop and restart them.
- Try to not take any NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, 7 days before or after your treatment.
- Appointments can last up to 30 minutes.
- Let us know if you’re taking any herbal medicines or supplements—we may ask that you discontinue them temporarily.
- Avoid alcohol, smoking, and caffeine the day before your treatment, as well as the day after.
- Limit sun and heat exposure, and if you’re getting hair loss treatment, do not dye your hair in the week before and after your PRP injections.
There are a few ways that you can promote optimal healing and benefits after your PRP injections in North Liberty:
- Avoid strenuous activities for at least 48 to 72 hours. This includes heavy lifting or other intense workouts.
- Apply a cool compress to the injection site to reduce swelling and discomfort.
- No direct sunlight or excess heat exposure in the treated area. If you must be exposed to sunlight, SPF 30 or higher is recommended.
- Keep the injection sites clean with mild soap and water. Do not apply makeup or other skincare products to the area for at least 24 hours.
- Continue to avoid blood thinners and stay hydrated. You may take over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen.
- If your PRP injection in North Liberty is for hair restoration, we recommend not using any hair products for 2 to 3 days after treatment.
